Tuesday

Tuesday July 5th, 2011! We spent a beautiful sunny day in Gold Beach, Oregon.
Wake up call: 10! J We had a very eventful evening the night before and we didn’t have to be anywhere urgently so we had a very relaxing morning, sleeping in and making a spectacular breaky of pancakes, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and toast.
After breakfast we got ready for our day and then checked out the river that runs by our camp. The water felt delightful on the feet in 33 degree weather! Around noon we headed off to the little town on the oceans, Gold Beach. Bubba Bart needed trunks and a few of us needed sunglasses so we roamed around main street, looking in all the gift shops and so on.
Quarter to 2 we met at Jerry’s Rogue Jets for our jet boat adventure down the Rogue River. After being equipped with jackets and blankets for the ride back we boarded the big blue jet boat. We were introduced to our wonderful captain, John. After a few safety instructions we were off. The docks for the tour were right where the Rogue River meets the ocean. We started off slow, as he told us about the history of the bridge we went under and the many swallows nests underneath it. Up the river we went, seeing all kinds of birds: osprey, bald eagles, swallows, turkey vultures, and duckies! We even saw the VanderDeen family of ducks! A mother with 11 ducks :D We also saw some little baby deer.
The ride was unbelievable! John would turn the boat suddenly so that we would do 360’s in the water. His main objective: to get us as wet as possible! It felt awesome in the hot hot sun. We stopped for a short break along the river where we could buy water or snacks. Most of us used this opportunity to take a dip in the water.
From here we went further up the river to white water! Wow can those jet boats go! We turned around going up and down rapids. We got soaked, then dried, soaked then dried. We headed back down to Singing Springs restaurant where they had a buffet dinner waiting for us.
After our hour and a half supper we headed back into the boat and down the river to our starting point. The ride back was much cooler, hence the blankets and jackets. Of course our group was the most roudy, instigating water fights and tumbles and so on. All those people must have decided then that Canadians are CRAZY! :D
Back at the camp we started a fire, sang some songs and discussed how burnt everyone was! Apparently sunscreen washes off. We had a super enjoyable evening, teaching everyone how to line dance to our favourite country songs. Annette even taught sir how to two step, who then taught Mrs. Froma. J Bart was our very trustworthy DJ.
Kaitlyn closed the evening with reading of Psalm 8 and a word of prayer. Back into the tents we crawled.
