Random Discoveries in the US of A

There are some things we discovered about the States that are definitely weird, or interesting, whichever you prefer.
We were rather confused about their gas prices since it’s sold per gallon. They don’t believe in the decimal system so everything has fractions on the end of it. Signs read things like ½ Mile to such and such.
You cannot buy Smarties here they only have M&M’s. Nor can you buy Aero bars or Coffee Crisp. They don’t have Tim Hortons, even though it’s owned by the US. They have Starbucks and many “The Woods” coffee shops. Their iced tea is disgusting! Like real tea chilled. But they do have vanilla coke! J We’ve seen a lot of BMW’s!
The road construction signs along the coast here in Oregon are made to withstand wind. They look like kites attached to big blocks. Oregon also doesn’t have any tax. If the price tag says $10.95, it’s exactly $10.95. You’re also not allowed to pump your own gas.
A case of Corona in Canada: $26, in the states: $16.99! No we can’t take any home for the you L Alcohal is everywhere, not just liquor stores, grocery stores and gas stations carry it too. Seems to me this might encourage drinking and driving.
The red lights here are waaay too short to do Chinese fire drills. Halfway around the van it turned green. L
While the people here are known for being so patriotic we haven’t found them the most friendly. Guess that’s where the Canadian friendly thing is a big deal. When Jordan asked for directions to Gold Beach he was told to get a map! When grabbing a cup of coffee I (Kaitlyn) was asked if I was old enough to drink it. In Canada I got a free one! :P One lady wanted to use our numbers to accompany her on the beach to roast marshmallows. Some hippies camping on the beach told us to shut up. So much for peace and love.
Not everyone is this rude. We have met some nice people in the bathrooms at campground, but I think they just loved our singing skills. (The sun’ll come out tomorrow…) :D the people on the boat tour thought we were great for coming up with a trip like this and then fundraising to make it happen. Once you get to know us, we’re not so bad. And either way, wherever we go, we try to be quite entertaining.
