It’s Monday morning and we’re on the road again. But since our internet wasn’t working well yesterday we never blogged. So I’ll tell you about our Sunday in Lynden.
Sunday morning we woke up to rain and clouds, but by the time we were ready for church it had subsided. We got to church nice and early. The organ playing was delightful and we had reading by one of the elders.
Outside of church we were greeted by many. What friendly people! Everyone was so curious about who we were and what we were up to. Can you believe three different people offered to host all 17 of us for lunch?! J We went to Mr. and Mrs. Veldmans for lunch, an uncle and aunt of Shawn Kobes. They had 11 children and had turned an old cattle barn into a really cute mess hall. There was 3 stoves, sinks, two giant tables, a nursery corner and a living room with old, but very comfy chairs and couches. It was so neat! After helping them prepare a big pot of spaghetti and garlic and cheese buns we shared a meal together.
After the second service we were introduced to a lot of young people. Since we were going for a drive to the ocean after our supper we invited them along. Upon leaving Church we decided to drive downtown Lynden and check it out. We found a little Holland . Dutch bakeries and paintings and a variety of antique stores, they even had a motel in the shape of a giant windmill. After taking several pictures we headed back to the campground for supper. We had a delicious meal of corn, pork chops, and roasted potatoes on the barbeque.
We left around 7:30 for Larrabee, a state park by the ocean. State of Washington that is :D (crazy we’re in the states!) Sadly we didn’t see open ocean yet, but ocean nevertheless! There was a lot of trails there so we started climbing all along the rocky ridge next to the ocean. Some of us were much more brave then others. (Good thing we have travel insurance right?) So the few young people we talked to invited a bunch more and about 10 of them showed up to meet us and show us around or explore with us. We got lots of snapshots on the big sandstone rocks. We found purple starfish and after prying them from their rocks inspected them. Quite prickly! Overall, we had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the company of the young people. Between them and the Veldmans and the many others who said hello by church we could definitely experience the communion of saints here in the United States ! What a blessing! J
We ended the evening with a fire to finish off the very expensive wood we purchased upon arriving at the campground on Saturday. Jordan closed the day with devotions.
